Out in left field!

I wondered when I first saw POA what was up with the new Dumbledore. Now with GOF, I can't believe how wrong Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore is!

Let's just go over a few of these moments.

"Eternal Glory"

Our Dumbledore said things like:
"Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"

Why does he have to look so dirty? From reading the books people suspected he could be the Half Blood Prince because of his regal robes. Gambon's Dumbledore looks like a poor tramp!

And worst of all, Gambon yells at Harry and then physically shakes him! What happen to the Dumbledore that loved Harry?

I completely agree with you. Dumbledore has been portrayed through out the books not only as a wise, calm and very intelligent wizard, but an advocate for students. They're safety and well being is number one. Though out GOF, it is mentioned how safety was always a consideration for Dumbledore.

Each time in GOF, Michael G. got screen time, I cringed. 1) He doesn't pronouce the Beauxbaton school correctly 2) He seems so full of himself. "Eternal Glory" what the heck is that? Dumbledore has always been modest. Don't you recall in Book one Professor McGonnagall mentioning that "He Who must not be named" feared Dumbledore and Dumbledore says he's blushing and dismisses the idea with witty words. 3) In GOF-Screaming out Harry's Name and on screen grabbing Harry on the shoulders and right to his face screaming, "Did you put you name in the goblet" and shaking Harry with each sentence. 4) The jerky movements of frustration and fear that you really never read that in the books from Dumbledore. He'd really calm and you can read when he's worried, but even when he is, he is always very kind to all his students.

I'm actully really fine with the plot changes of the stories, but I'm not very forgiving for character changes, especially one that is so pivotal in Harry's life a Hogwarts.

Great points!

And most of these could have been fixed had he studied for his part by reading the books. At least read the first one so that you know the basis for the whole story!

I think he was trying to avoid playing the part like Richard Harris (who I think played dumbledore exceptionally well). the only problem with that is Richard Harris understood the character and thus played it right. trying to avoid playing dumbledore the same way is basically trying to play it wrong.

Its the fault of both. the screen writers tried to cram too much in to show the depth and complexity of the characters. Oh well at least I will always have the Dumbldore that I see in my head when I read the books. I cant picture Gambon playing dumbldore in book 6. he just cant pull it off. I hope that warnerbros and whoever direct it realise by then that they need to switch it up for at least the last 2...i hope they need a dumbldore for 7.
